A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Two All-MIAC performers return from the 2012 Outdoor MIAC Championship team to lead the Johnnies this season. SJU returns two-time All-MIAC athlete Kevin Horton (Eagan, Minn.) as the top sprinter this season.? Horton took second in the 400 meters and third in the 200 meters at the 2012 MIAC Outdoor Championships. Juniors Jack Elsnes (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park) and Patrick Means (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle) are expected to add depth this season in the sprints.

Senior Andrew Calascione (Parker, Colo./Chaparal) returns after claiming third in the javelin at the outdoor championships last spring with a throw of 48.37 meters.

Senior Ruairi Moynihan (Fargo, N.D./South) finished sixth in the 5,000 meters at the outdoor championships and fifth in the 3,000 meters at the 2012 MIAC Indoor Championships. Junior John Subialka (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) and freshman Thomas Feichtinger (Omaha, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) will add depth to the distance squad after a successful cross-country season this past fall. Subialka ran 10th at the MIAC Cross Country Championship, as well as a 16th-place finish at the NCAA Regional. On the track, Subialka finished sixth in the 10,000 meters at the MIAC Outdoor Championships last spring. Feichtinger, meanwhile, earned All-Region honors after finishing 18th at the NCAA Regional.

After losing two-time MIAC Outdoor discus champion Wade Powers to graduation, the Johnnies will look to an experienced group of throwers to lead the way in 2013. Senior Joe Donner (Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine) finished ninth in the shot put (13.70 meters) at the outdoor championships, while junior Brian Vargason (Owatonna, Minn.) took fifth in the discus. Vargason also claimed ninth in the weight throw at the indoor championships and was the conference's indoor champion in the shot put as a freshman.

The Johnnies will look to their senior-laden jumping squad to be a strength for the team this season. Seniors Brady O'Brien (Minneapolis, Minn./Holy Angels) and Brian Peterson (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) finished seventh and eighth in the triple jump, respectively, at the outdoor championships in May. O'Brien also recorded an eighth-place finish in the triple jump at the indoor championships last spring. Senior Tyler Martin (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) and freshman Zach Roy (Andover, Minn.) are expected to add depth.

SJU will look to senior Derek Rausch (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and juniors Caleb VandeWege (Roseau, Minn.), Michael Richter (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Taylor Nauman (Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace) to lead the way in the 110- and 400-meter hurdles.

Junior Collin Hager (Miltona, Minn./Parkers Prairie) returns to lead the mid-distance runners after posting a sixth-place finish at last year's indoor championships. Senior Andrew Million (Lino Lakes, Minn./Totino-Grace) is the leading decathlete for the Johnnies.

Head coach Tim Miles is in his 34th season in Collegeville and has produced a winning program that has finished among the MIAC's top two squads in 21 of the past 33 seasons, including MIAC championships in 1997, 1999, 2005, 2007 and 2011. Miles won MIAC Coach of the Year honors in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2011. At the national level, Miles' athletes have gathered 58 Division III All-America performances since 1980.
